Referrals and initial assessment

Referrals for counselling are welcome from health care professionals, organisations, or individuals. Initial assessment appointments are usually offered within one week of first contact. An opportunity to discuss your requirements will be provided during initial contact with CarpeDiem Psychology Services. An assessment offers you the opportunity to provide information about yourself and to ask any questions you may have about the process of therapy, and allows the therapist to assess whether counselling might be helpful and the best course of action to take. At this stage an agreement will be made about the approach to be used in therapy and time frame for any future sessions.

Approaches

Approaches used include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Systemic (solution focused) therapy and Psychodynamic therapy. Sessions are offered to meet the specific needs of clients, with flexible use of time between sessions. Emphasis is placed on enhancing individual strengths and resources and developing coping abilities so that difficulties can be overcome.
